Faxi constantly practiced the Vaipulya confession rituals. A pheasant once came to demand his life. A spirit person reprimanded it, saying, “The Dharma Master is destined for rebirth in the Pure Land; how could he repay you with his life?” Later, while ill, he made a vow to dedicate all the practices and actions cultivated throughout his lifetime toward the Pure Land. Chanting the Buddha's name with sincere mind, he immediately saw the Buddha and the assembly of bodhisattvas coming to welcome him, and he passed away sitting upright.
