Daxing entered Mount Tai and practiced the Samantabhadra repentance for three years, eliciting the bodily manifestation of the Great Being. In his later years, he went into the scripture repository, stated his intention, reached out his hand, picked a scroll, and obtained the Amitābha Sūtra. He then chanted and recited it day and night. At the end of three times seven days, he beheld the Buddha and the two Great Beings manifesting their bodies before him upon a ground of vaidūrya. Emperor Xizong heard of this, summoned him to the palace, bestowed on him the title Bodhisattva of Constant Vigour, and enfeoffed him as Duke of Kaiguo. One year later, the ground of vaidūrya reappeared, and that very day he passed away lying on his right side. An extraordinary fragrance did not dissipate for ten days, and his physical body did not decay.
