Liu Cheng's fish. During the Tianbao era of the Tang, fishermen Liu Cheng and Li Hui of Dangtu loaded fish and sailed toward Danyang, mooring their boat in an inlet. Li went elsewhere. Suddenly, Liu saw a large fish on the boat flutter its fins, shake its head, and invoke 'Amitābha Buddha'. Startled, Liu fled to the shore. Shortly thereafter, he heard tens of thousands of fish all leaping and reciting the Buddha's name, the sound shaking heaven and earth. In great terror, Liu threw all the fish into the river. When Li arrived, he did not believe it. Liu then compensated him with his own wealth. The next day, among the reeds, he found fifteen thousand cash (fifteen strings) with an inscription: 'Repaying the value of your fish.'
