In our dynasty, Jiezhu of Mount Fei first compiled the Biographies of Rebirth. Subsequently, Vice Minister Wang Gu added a continuation. Since the crossing to the south, Lu Shishou of Qiantang further supplemented and continued it. Morong Haiyin of Siming again continued it thereafter. Altogether, two Confucians and two monks sequentially completed this book. Now I have excised the superfluous text and recorded exclusively the proofs of reciting the Buddha's name during life and being reborn [in the Pure Land] at the end of life, so that those who cultivate pure karma may have something to aspire to.
