Yang Jie, styled Cigong, was a native of Wuwei. His official post was Director of the Bureau of Receptions in the Ministry of Rites. He traveled throughout Chan monasteries, visiting and seeking spiritual mentors. In his later years, he painted an image of the Western Buddha, which he carried along for contemplation. On the day he relinquished his lifespan, he felt the Buddha coming to welcome him; he sat upright and passed away.
