Feng Min was a native of Shangyu. In his youth he engaged in hunting. There was a giant serpent harming the villagers, so Min took a spear and went after it. He saw the serpent beneath a cliff locked in confrontation with a yellow bull. Min pushed a giant rock down upon it, and the serpent ultimately died. Later, whenever he thought of this, he worried that the serpent would become an enemy seeking retribution. He therefore sought the Buddha to resolve it, turning his aspiration toward the West to cultivate repentance and recite the Buddha's name. Thus it went for ten years. One evening he invited his fellow members of the society to assist in reciting the Amitābha Sūtra and calling upon the Buddha's name, and next chanted Samantabhadra's verses for repenting sins and verses of aspiration for rebirth. He then sat upright with palms joined and passed away.
