Thirteenth year (renchin): The Buddha returned to the kingdom of Magadha and preached the Dharma for King Pukkusāti (Sūtra of the Twelve Years of Wandering). Bodhisattva Rucika requested the erection of an ordination platform for conferring precepts upon the monks. The Buddha ordered it to be established in the southeast of the outer precinct of the Jeta Grove (Dharmaguptaka-vinaya). The ordination platform was built up from the ground, with three tiers representing the three kinds of emptiness. Śakra, Lord of the Gods, added an inverted bowl to cover the relics. The Great Brahmā King placed a priceless gem atop the inverted bowl, making five tiers to represent the fivefold Dharma-body. The Brahmā King's gem was as large as a five-dou vase; those of great merit saw its light illuminating eight hundred yojanas, while those of meager merit saw it like a lump of ink (Diagram and Scripture of the Ordination Platform of Nanshan).
