The commentary says: The Yingluo jing states that after Śāriputra was rebuked, his mind gradually turned toward the Mahāyāna, yet he still harbored words of resentment toward the Buddha, believing that if there were no three vehicles they would already have achieved sambodhi, and that it was all the Tathāgata's fault and not their error. When it came to the Lotus Sūtra's cycle of Dharma teaching, he said: 'We together entered into the Dharma-nature; why did the Tathāgata deliver us through the Hinayāna teachings? This is our own fault, not the Bhagavat's.' From this we know that in the Yingluo jing, not understanding expedient means, he blamed the Buddha; while in the Lotus Sūtra, having already entered the Dharma-nature, he blamed himself.
