The Larger Prajñāpāramitā consists of forty fascicles. According to the Canon Catalogue, the Mahāprajñā consists of thirty fascicles, and the Guangzan bore (Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā) consists of ten fascicles. Nāgārjuna used this text to compose the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa (Zhidu lun) in one hundred fascicles. Zhiyi relied on this treatise to compose a commentary in twenty fascicles (now in Goryeo and has not yet arrived here). Sūtras such as the Fangguang [bore] and the Diamond Sūtra, ten sūtras in total, were all translated between the Jin and Song dynasties. It was not until Master Xuanzang of the Tang that the Mahāprajñāpāramitā Sūtra was first translated in its entirety in six hundred fascicles. One should know that the former ten sūtras were all separate translations of portions thereof. What Zhiyi cited in his various works were precisely the doctrines in the Larger Prajñāpāramitā, translated by Kumārajīva of the Jin, which predated the Mahāprajñā translated in the Tang.
