Regarding the Lord of the Lotus Teaching, based on Siming's established doctrine: the thirty-two marks clarified in the Lotus are named "honored and special" because they are identical to the dharmakāya. Therefore, when the physical body is identical to the dharmakāya, it is then the honored and special. This clarifies the honored and special in terms of opening the expedient, whereby the inferior is identical to the revealed superior. The dragon girl wished to make known the wondrous marks of opening the expedient, and therefore said that the dharmakāya is endowed with the thirty-two marks. Each and every one of these marks is a complete manifestation of principle; because the dharmakāya is omnipresent, the thirty-two marks are mark by mark all-pervading. The Dharma is endowed with ten thousand virtues, and the marks must also be fully possessed. If this wondrous body were not called honored and special, what other body could be pointed to as honored and special? This is forever distinct from Jingjue's doctrine that it is definitively the physical body. As for discussing three in identity with one: it is merely through the Tathāgata's wondrous power of the thirty-two marks that, for the Tripiṭaka, [the body] is shown to have delimitations and is named the physical body; merely through the Tathāgata's wondrous power of the thirty-two marks that, for capacities transitioning from the common to the distinct, it is shown to be without delimitations and is named the honored and special; and merely through the Tathāgata's wondrous power of the thirty-two marks that, for capacities of the perfect teaching, each and every mark is shown to be precisely the Dharma methods inherently possessed by original nature, and is named the dharmakāya. Because three kinds of capacities evoke the Tathāgata, he shows three kinds of marks upon a single body.
