On the thirtieth day of the second month, the World-Honored One reached the waters of the blind dragon king Mucilinda and sat in samādhi for seven days. His light shone into the water, and the dragon's eyes were opened. Remembering having previously seen the radiant light of three Buddhas (the three Buddhas Krakucchanda, Kanakamuni, and Kāśyapa in the Bhadrakalpa), whereupon his eyes regained sight, he emerged from the water to see the Buddha. The heavens rained for seven days; the dragon coiled his body around him seven times and spread his seven heads over him as a shelter. After seven days the rain ceased, and the Buddha awoke from samādhi. The dragon transformed into a young man of the Way, and the Buddha conferred on him the three refuges (this should follow Trapuṣa in taking refuge in the future Saṅgha). Among all beasts, he was the first to see the Buddha. (Guo qu ying guo jing).
