The New Bodhisattvapiṭaka-sūtra [says]: 'Because the buddhas have accomplished inconceivable gnosis, they are able in their course to know all the characteristics of wind and rain. They know that in the world there is a fiery wind named *Urubhaga [?]. All sensations and feelings of sentient beings are stirred by this wind. The height of this wind disc is three krośas. (A krośa is translated here as the hearing distance of a drum beat. According to the Za baozang jing, five li make one krośa. The Abhidharma treatises state that eight krośas make one yojana, which corresponds to the medium-grade yojana in the Dazhidu lun, equivalent to forty li.) In the empty space above this wind, another wind arises, named *Jambaka [?]. The height of this wind disc is ten yojanas (and so forth).' In this manner, one can fully know in succession the characteristics of the sixty-eight thousand koṭi wind discs above the discs. The uppermost wind disc is named Universally Pervading the Upper Realm, which serves as the support for the water disc. The height of that water is sixty-eight hundred thousand [i.e., 6,800,000] yojanas, which serves as the support for the great earth. The height of that earth is sixty-eight thousand [i.e., 68,000] yojanas. On the surface of this earth is one great trichiliocosm.
