Hanging Banners: If male or female disciples among the four assemblies pass away, and one makes yellow banners and suspends them upon poles, they will abandon the sufferings of the eight difficulties and be reborn in the pure lands of the ten directions. With each turn in the wind, one attains the station of a wheel-turning king, and even stirring the dust brings the station of a lesser king; the retribution is immeasurable, extending up to the attainment of bodhi (Twelfth Fascicle of the Da guanding jing; in ordinary society, some write the twelve vows of the Tathāgata Bhaiṣajyaguru upon them, but this is a separate circumstance and not the root matter of the sūtra).
