The fifth year: the second, the Deer Park period. Because the Tathāgata's preaching of the sudden [teaching] was received solely by those of great capacity, the śrāvakas in the assembly were like deaf-mutes. Thereupon, setting aside the great, he dispensed the small; without moving from the site of quiescence, he traveled to the Deer Park. For the five persons, including Kauṇḍinya, he expounded only the Tripiṭaka teaching, the four Āgama sūtras, and so forth (Kauṇḍinya translates as 'fire vessel'. Āgama translates as 'incomparable Dharma'; there are four names: Dīrgha, Madhyama, Saṃyukta, and Ekottarika).
