Critical Examination: The holy traces of Laozi emerge from being and enter non-being; it is indeed difficult to unify them into a single account based on the esoteric biographies and authentic records. However, Confucius questioning Lao Dan about the rites and Laozi's son Zong becoming a general of Wei are recorded in Sima Qian's Shiji, which can especially serve as proof of their being contemporaries. There is no need to seek far back into ancient times for his numerous descents and births.
