In the first year of the Jianxing era, the layman Zhu Ying of Wu County saw two stone statues floating down the river at the mouth of the Songjiang channel. On their backs were inscriptions reading: 'Vipaśyin Buddha, Kāśyapa Buddha.' He then welcomed them to Tongxuan Monastery. Eight years later, fishermen found two blue-stone bowls on the river and took them home to hold meat and pungent foods. Suddenly, they saw images of the Buddha around the rims of the bowls. Those with knowledge recognized them as the bowls for the two earlier statues, and they were sent to the monastery.
