The commentary states: When Kaśmīra harmed Āryasiṃha, the king's arm dropped off and his life ended; when Juqu stabbed Dharmakṣema, a divine being struck him with a blade. Some may say that holy masters, having completely penetrated past karma, were merely seeking to repay their debts, so why should they cause the perpetrators to receive such retribution? It is likely that the Dharma-protecting deities were enraged by their transgression against a venerable presence, and the blazing malice in the perpetrators' minds was itself sufficient to summon it. This is not comparable to ordinary people exacting mutual retribution from one another.
