In the fifty-third year (ren-shen), the Buddha first went to Trāyastriṃśa Heaven for the three-month retreat. He sent Mañjuśrī to his mother's place to invite her briefly to pay homage to the Three Jewels. When Queen Māyā heard of this, her milk flowed spontaneously directly into the Buddha's mouth. She immediately came with Mañjuśrī to the Buddha's presence. The Buddha preached the Dharma for her, and she attained the fruit of srotāpanna. As the three months were about to end, he wished to enter nirvāṇa. Śakra created three flight of jeweled steps. The Buddha bid farewell to his mother and, guided and accompanied by the great assembly, descended and returned to the Jetavana (Sutra on the Buddha Ascending to Trāyastriṃśa).
