Sima Chengzhen announced his transformation. An imperial decree posthumously titled him Master of Perfect Unity (Zhenyi). During Ruizong's reign, he lived on Tiantai. He was summoned into the presence to be questioned on the Dao, and replied: 'He who acts for the Dao suffers decrease daily.' His Majesty said, 'That is fine for cultivating oneself; what about governing the country?' He replied, 'The country is just like the self. Follow things without selfishness, and the realm will be ordered.' His Majesty sighed and said, 'These are the words of Guangchengzi.' During Xuanzong's reign, an envoy was sent to welcome him to the capital to receive the registers of methods. He took his leave to return to Mount Wangwu. He had a disciple named Jiao Jing who met an immortal maiden who told him: 'You may visit the Azure Youth Lord of Donghua to receive the method of the Three Sovereigns.' When he asked for the name, it was Zhenyi. Upon his return, he visited him, and the Master gladly conferred it upon him.
