Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang. During the Huichang suppression of monasteries, two monks carried the Mañjuśrī image of Donglin [Temple] on their backs and hid it at Peak Top Temple in Brocade Valley. When they later went to look for the image, they could not find it. Suddenly a circular halo welled up into the sky. From then on, at the Celestial Pond on the peak summit, sacred lamps were frequently seen, and hundreds of thousands of Mañjuśrīs appeared and disappeared.
