Chen Zhen, the elder brother of the Master of Wisdom, served as Adjutant for the Central Guard to Prince Jin'an of the Liang. At the age of forty, the immortal Zhang Guo examined his physiognomy and said: 'Your death will be within a month.' The master had him perform the Vaipulya Repentance. Zhen saw a placard at the gate of heaven that said: 'Hall of Chen Zhen. Fifteen years later, he shall be born here.' When Guo later saw Zhen, he asked in astonishment: 'What medicine did you take, sir?' He replied: 'I only practiced repentance.' Guo said: 'If not for the power of the Way, how could one transcend death?' In the end, his life was extended by fifteen years before he died. The Master of Wisdom once composed the Minor Calming and Contemplation for him, which he inquired into and practiced day and night without indolence.
