Shen Junli, courtesy name Zhonglun, was a native of Wuxing. He married the eldest princess of Kuaiji, daughter of Emperor Wu of the Chen, holding the rank of Equal to the Three Excellencies. He received the bodhisattva precepts from the Great Master and drafted a memorial requesting him to reside at Waguan [Monastery] to expound the title of the Lotus Sūtra. Emperor Xuan issued an edict to suspend court for one day and ordered his officials to go and listen. At that time, Chief Minister of the Court of Imperial Entertainments Wang Gu, Palace Attendant Kong Huan, Minister of the Department of State Affairs Mao Xi, and Vice Director of the Department of State Affairs Zhou Hongzheng all perfumed themselves with the fragrance of the precepts and partook together of the wondrous Dharma. They further requested him to analyze and explain the profound meaning throughout the summer. Monastics and laypeople assembled together, and many attained awakening. (The Miaoxuan's mention of 'ninety days speaking of the wondrous' refers to this very time.)
