The Imperial Preceptor commanded him to sit, bestowed food, and heard the essentials of the Vajrayāna with great joy. Returning from the capital to Gusu, the abbot of Wanshou offered him half of the high seat to invite him to preach the Dharma, and the assembly submitted to his virtue. If he had not possessed divine endowments from past lives and received wisdom over many births, how could he have attained such clarity and acumen, compiling accounts of the ancestors and illuminating the correct teaching, bringing high officials and great men to revere him so earnestly? During the Zhida era, I served Fozhi and had the privilege of receiving instruction from the Chan master; knowing the general outline, I write this preface. The Chan master's taboo name is Nianchang, and Meiwu is his sobriquet. In the third month of the fourth year of the Zhizheng era [1344], respectfully prefaced by the bhikṣu Jue'an, abbot of Zhaoqing in Mount She, Songjiang.
