(10) The destruction of the bhājana-loka is of three kinds: destruction by fire, water, and wind, as was also explained before. After seven such [destructions by fire], the world forms again, and is then destroyed by water up to the Second Dhyāna Heaven: from the Ābhāsvara Heaven great clouds arise and pour down torrential rain, and that bhājana-loka, like salt dissolving in water, entirely melts away. That water dries up on its own; this is one disaster of water. Next there are another seven disasters of fire; having passed through seven disasters of fire, there is again one of water. When the disasters of water reach seven in this manner, after another seven disasters of fire the world forms again, and is destroyed by the disaster of wind up to the Third Dhyāna Heaven. The force of that wind blows apart Mount Sumeru, not to mention the rest! Although the Fourth Dhyāna Heaven is free from external disasters, those sentient beings are born together with their palaces, and when their lives end, their palaces vanish. In this way, the worlds of the vessel and of sentience, along with their formation and destruction, have all been expounded.
