(21. Renyin) Sixteenth year [642 CE]. Tripiṭaka Master Xuanzang departed Rājagṛha and entered the state of Kāmarūpa. The king of the state went to the outskirts to welcome him. After a while, he asked, "In your realm, a sage has appeared in the world who composed the 'Music of the Prince of Qin Breaking the Battle Array'. Please tell me about his character." Xuanzang roughly set forth the Emperor's divine martial prowess in pacifying the realm, and how he personally practiced the governance of Yao and Shun. The king was greatly astonished. Facing east, he kowtowed and said, "I shall go to pay court and travel together with the Master." Thereupon, Xuanzang produced his own composition, the Treatise on Refuting Evil Views, and showed it to him. The king admired it and sighed with praise, saying, "Once this treatise emerges, it can be said that when the sunlight has risen, the fireflies lose their brilliance!" He immediately provided dark elephants and celebrated steeds to assist Xuanzang in carrying the scriptures and returning.
