16.40

（廿二）　三月詔曰。會昌季年併省寺宇。雖云異方之教。有資為理之源。中國之人久行其道。釐革過當事體乖謬。其靈山聖境應會昌五年所廢寺宇諸宿舊僧。可仍舊修葺住持。

(Year 22) In the third month, an imperial decree stated: “During the final years of the Huichang era, monasteries were merged and eliminated. Although it is said to be a teaching of foreign lands, it serves as a source for aiding governance. The people of the Central Plains have practiced its way for a long time; the reform was excessive, and the substance of the matter was erroneous. For the abolished monasteries of Huichang year 5 situated in wondrous mountains and holy realms, the various senior veteran monks may restore and inhabit them as of old.”
