(Renshen [912 CE]) The Liang founder grew gravely ill. The King of Ying, Yougui, was demoted to Prefect of Laizhou. Instead of departing, he went in disguise to Han Qing, Commander of the Left Dragon and Tiger Army, plotting to enter and stage an ambush in the forbidden palace. Yougui's servant Feng Ting'e stabbed the Emperor in the bedchamber. Forging an imperial edict, Yougui assumed temporary control of military and state affairs, announced the mourning, and ascended the imperial throne. Originally, when the Liang founder Wen was seizing territory between Song and Bo, he happened to have a wild union with an inn woman, and [Yougui] was born. He had reigned for less than a year when Youzhen demoted him to a commoner, changing the era to Yuanfeng.
