(22. Bingyin) In the fourth year of Tiansheng, the Tiantai doctrinal section was granted entry into the Tripiṭaka. Attendant Siwu of Tianzhu Temple burned his body to repay the grace of the state. Wu was a native of Qiantang. Earlier, Master Shi of Ciyun wished to request the entry of Master Zhiyi's doctrinal scrolls into the Tripiṭaka. Lord Wang Wenmu was about to report it to the court. Wu said, "This is an extraordinary matter; this humble one will assist in it." Thereupon he painted an image of the Great Compassionate One, recited dhāraṇīs, and made a vow, saying, "When the matter is accomplished, I will burn my body to repay the state." Lord [Wang] passed away, and Wu recited the dhāraṇī with even greater diligence. In this year, the imperial decree was obtained and his initial aspiration was fulfilled (Shi composed a eulogy and carved it on stone).
