18.66

（丁丑）　時景祐三年四月賜序。秋七月（有星數百西南流至壁東。其光燭地。黑氣長丈餘。出畢宿下○冬十二月京師定襄代并忻等州地震。代并壞民廬舍而忻尤甚。壓死萬九千餘。人民皆露處。自此或地震裂泉涌火出如黑沙狀連年不止宋史）。

(Dingchou [1037]) At that time, in the fourth month of Jingyou 3, the preface was bestowed. In the autumn, the seventh month (Hundreds of meteors flowed southwestward to the east of Bi constellation. Their light illuminated the earth. A black vapor over ten feet long appeared beneath the Bi constellation. ○ In winter, the twelfth month, an earthquake occurred in the capital and in Dingxiang, Dai, Bing, and Xin prefectures. In Dai and Bing, houses were destroyed, but Xin suffered most severely. Over 19,000 people were crushed to death, and the populace all dwelt in the open. From this point on, there were recurring earthquakes with ground fissures from which springs gushed and fire emerged looking like black sand, continuing for consecutive years without ceasing; recorded in the *History of the Song*).
