The Jin state issued an edict requesting him to remain and serve as Hanlin Academician Recipient of Edicts. When in discussions, he frequently cited Confucian texts to corroborate Buddhist principles. Repeatedly bestowed gold and silk, he accepted them only to give to the poor, keeping no medicine in his pouch. The court rituals of the Jin dynasty were all established by him. At the age of one hundred and eight, without illness, he sat cross-legged, took up his brush, chanted aloud, and passed away. His verse read: 'Leaving my country in haste, how many years have passed? / Free of public and private affairs, I am pleased in both. / How could discussions of those days remain fixed? / Today’s workings hold another affinity. / Ten thousand affairs were already settled in a former life; / A heroic name is left to be transmitted by good men. / A solitary body makes no plans of coming and going; / One must believe that within the chest there is another heaven.'
