(19) The śramaṇa Vighna (translated here as 'Obstacle') was a man of the country of Tianzhu. Together with the śramaṇa Zhu Luyan, he arrived in Wuchang Commandery and translated two scriptures. When Vighna died, Luyan further translated three scriptures in three fascicles in the capital of Yang[zhou]. At that time, there was an upāsaka named Zhi Qian, courtesy name Gongming, who was a man of the Yuezhi kingdom. Earlier, he traveled to the city of Luoyang and received instruction from Zhi Liang. Liang, courtesy name Jiming, had received instruction from Lokakṣema. The world said that the wide knowledge under Heaven did not exceed the three Zhis. Qian was widely read in scriptures and texts; in appearance, he was tall, slender, dark, and emaciated, with the whites of his eyes predominant and his pupils yellow. People of the time said: "Young Master Zhi has yellow in his eyes; though his body is slender, he is a bag of wisdom." When he fled the turmoil and took refuge in Wu, the ruler saw him, was greatly pleased, and appointed him an Erudite (boshi). He translated 129 scriptures in 152 fascicles.
