(Kuichou) In the fifth year of Datong, the Great Being (Mahāsattva) of Shuanglin in Yiwu was surnamed Fu, named Xi, and had the Dharma title Shanhui. At the age of sixteen, he took Liu Miaoguang as his wife, and had two sons, Pujian and Puyan. There was once a Western Regions śramaṇa, the dhūta Song, who met the Great Being and said, 'You and I took a vow together in the presence of Vipaśyin Buddha. The Great Being rejoiced and said, 'I have attained the Śūraṅgama Samādhi.' He then renounced his fields and residence and sold his wife and children, obtaining fifty thousand cash to stage an assembly of Dharma-giving. Thereupon, atop Mount Song, by twin tulu trees, he founded a monastery and dwelt there, hence named Shuanglin ('Twin Groves'). By day he worked and by night he practiced the Path. He composed a verse: 'Empty-handed, holding a hoe; / Walking on foot, riding a water buffalo. / A person passes over the bridge; / The bridge flows, but the water does not flow.' Another day, while circumambulating the intertwined twin trees on the mountain peak practicing the Path, he moved the Seven Buddhas to follow him, with Śākyamuni leading in front and Vimalakīrti following behind; only the Bhagavān Śākyamuni frequently looked back and conversed with the Great Being. From this, his extraordinary signs became increasingly evident. On the fifteenth day of the first month of this year, he sent his disciple Fu Wang to deliver a letter to the court. Its text read:
