'Contemplate the empty Mind King: / Profound, subtle, hard to fathom. / Without name, without form, / Possessing great spiritual power. / Able to extinguish a thousand disasters, / And accomplish ten thousand virtues. / Although its essence is empty, / It can bestow dharmic rules. / Contemplating it, it has no shape; / Calling to it, there is a sound. / Serving as the great Dharma commander, / The precepts of the mind transmit the scripture. / Like the flavor of salt in water, / Or the glue-binding in paint: / Definitely existent, / Yet its form cannot be seen. / The Mind King is likewise so: / Residing within the body, / Entering and exiting through the facial gates, / Responding to things according to circumstances. / Unimpeded, unobstructed, / All that it does is accomplished. / Comprehend the fundamental and know the mind; / Knowing the mind, one sees the Buddha. / This mind is the Buddha; / The Buddha is this mind. / In every thought, the Buddha mind; / The Buddha mind contemplates the Buddha. / Wishing for swift realization, / Discipline the mind with precepts. / Pure discipline, pure mind: / The mind is precisely the Buddha. / Apart from this Mind King, / There is no other Buddha. / Wishing to seek buddhahood, / Do not be defiled by a single thing. / Though mind-nature is empty, / Greed and anger appear real. / Entering this Dharma gate, / Sit upright and become a Buddha. / Having reached the other shore, / One attains pāramitā. / Genuine aspirants longing for the Way, / Contemplate your own mind: / Know that the Buddha is within; / Do not seek outwardly. / The mind itself is the Buddha; / The Buddha itself is the mind. / When the mind is bright, it recognizes the Buddha; / Fully comprehending, it knows the mind. / Apart from the mind, there is no Buddha; / Apart from the Buddha, there is no mind. / Without the Buddha, it cannot be fathomed, / Unfit for any role. / Grasping emptiness,滞 staying stuck in stillness: / Here one drifts and drowns. / The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas / Do not settle their minds in this. / The Great Being of enlightened mind / Awakens to this profound sound. / The nature of body and mind is wondrous, / Its function cannot be altered. / Therefore, the wise / Let the mind be free and at ease. / Do not say the Mind King / Is empty and lacks substance: / It can cause the physical body / To act evilly or act righteously. / Neither existent nor nonexistent, / Its concealing and revealing are unfixed. / Though mind-nature is empty, / It can be mundane or sacred. / Therefore, I urge you all / To carefully guard and heed yourself: / Created in an instant, / You drift and drown once again. / Pure wisdom of the mind / Is like gold in the world. / The Dharma treasury of prajñā / Is entirely in body and mind. / The Dharma-jewel of asaṃskṛta / Is shallow, not deep. / The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas / Have comprehended this original mind. / Those who have the karmic cause to encounter it / Transcend past, future, and present.'
