(27, dingsi) Sun Jingde of Dingzhou in the Eastern Wei reverently served Avalokiteśvara. Wrongly implicated by bandits, he was convicted of a capital crime. Approaching execution, he recited the name of Avalokiteśvara Who Saves from Suffering; the sword struck three times without injuring him, and when replaced three times, each sword broke. The authorities reported this to Gao Huan, who submitted a memorial requesting his exemption from death. Jingde returned home, and the neck of the image he served bore three sword marks. Today, it is said that the Gaowang Jing originated from this.
