Younger brother of Yong Ji. He appointed Yi Zhi as chancellor. In Bo, there was an omen: a mulberry tree and a paper mulberry tree grew together in the court, growing to the span of a two-arm embrace in a single night. Tai Wu asked Yi Zhi about it. Zhi said, "Monstrous portents cannot overcome virtue. Does your government have defects?" Tai Wu thereupon cultivated the governance of the former kings, made clear the rites of caring for the elderly, held court early and retired late, inquired after the sick, and condoled the bereaved. In three days, the omen withered and died. In three years, seventy-six states arrived from distant lands through multiple interpreters. There were worthy ministers such as Wu Xian and Chen Hu who jointly assisted him. The Way of the Shang revived, and he was titled Zhongzong. He was on the throne for seventy-five years.
