Duke Hu, Man, was a descendant of Yu Mu, who was a descendant of Emperor Shun, and the son of Efu. When King Wu conquered the Yin, he gave him his eldest daughter, Taiji, in marriage, enfeoffed him in Chen, and bestowed upon him the surname Gui. This was Guidang. The state was Chen (now Chenzhou of Bianliang Route). From Man for five generations down to Duke Shen, the chronology cannot be verified. It can be recorded only beginning from the accession of Duke You, the son of Duke Shen, Yu-cheng. There were twenty-four rulers, spanning a total of 645 years, beginning in the first year of King Wu, a jimao year, and ending in the forty-second year of King Jing, a guihai year.
