The Duke of Shao, Shi, was King Wu's younger brother. King Wu conquered the Yin and enfeoffed him in Northern Yan (Jizhou and Jizhou). At that time, the Duke of Shao had jurisdiction over the region west of Shan. He heard litigations and governed the people so that each found their proper place. When the Duke died, the people fondly remembered him; because he had once heard affairs of state beneath a sweet-pear tree, they did not dare cut it down, and composed the poem 'Sweet Pear' to praise him. For nine generations beneath the Duke of Shao, the chronology cannot be verified; it can only be recorded after Marquis Hui acceded. It began in the first year of King Wu, a jimao year, and entered the Warring States period in the thirty-sixth year of King Xian. (Year one) of the Zhou Gonghe regency was Marquis Hui's (first year).
