晉有六卿。曰智氏．趙氏．韓氏．魏氏．范氏．中行氏。彊而專權。晉侯卑弱不能制。貞定王十一年智氏與韓趙魏共滅范氏中行氏分其地。貞定王十二年晉侯怒四卿之驕暴。告齊魯欲伐之。四卿乃反攻公。公奔齊死之。是曰出公。乃立哀公。貞定王十三年智氏又約韓魏共伐趙。三年不能克。趙乃約韓魏。反攻智伯。滅其族三分智伯之地。

Jin had Six Ministers: the Zhi clan, the Zhao clan, the Han clan, the Wei clan, the Fan clan, and the Zhonghang clan. They were powerful and usurped authority, while the Marquis of Jin was lowly and weak, unable to restrain them. In the eleventh year of King Zhending, the Zhi clan together with Han, Zhao, and Wei jointly wiped out the Fan and Zhonghang clans and divided their lands. In the twelfth year of King Zhending, the Marquis of Jin, angered by the arrogance and violence of the four ministers, notified Qi and Lu, intending to attack them. The four ministers then launched a counterattack on the duke. The duke fled to Qi and died there; he is called Duke Chu. They then installed Duke Ai. In the thirteenth year of King Zhending, the Zhi clan again allied with Han and Wei to jointly attack Zhao. For three years they could not conquer it. Zhao then allied with Han and Wei, launched a counterattack on Earl Zhi, wiped out his lineage, and divided Earl Zhi's lands into three parts.
