Jing was the son of King Li. The Duke of Zhou and the Duke of Shao assisted the king in reforming governance, modeling themselves after the bequeathed ethos of Kings Wen, Wu, Cheng, and Kang. The king commanded the Duke of Shao to campaign against and pacify the Huai Yi tribes. The Earl of Shen and Zhong Shanfu brought peace to all under Heaven. He remedied errors in administration, proclaimed moral instructions, and elevated overlooked worthies. The realm within the seas was in harmonious accord, looking up to his wind of virtue. The feudal lords again took the Zhou as their ancestor-sovereign, and the Way of Zhou was revitalized. Yin Jifu composed odes in his praise. The king reigned for forty-six years.
