八祖佛陀難提尊者　迦摩羅國人也。姓瞿曇氏。頂有肉髻。辯捷無礙。初遇婆須蜜出家得道。行化至提伽國。度弟子伏馱蜜多付法。偈曰。虛空無內外。心法亦如此。若了虛空故。是達真如理。爾時尊者即現神變。却復本座。儼然寂滅。眾興寶塔。葬其全身。當此周景王之世也（正宗記）。

The Eighth Patriarch, the Venerable Buddhanandi, was a native of the kingdom of Kāmarūpa, of the Gautama clan. On his crown was an uṣṇīṣa, and his eloquence was swift and unimpeded. Formerly, he met Vasumitra, renounced the household life, and attained the Way. Traveling to convert beings, he arrived in the kingdom of Digā (Tiga?), converted his disciple Punyayaśas (Futuomiduo), and transmitted the Dharma to him. The verse said: / 'Empty space has neither inside nor outside; / The Dharma of mind is also like this. / If one understands empty space, / That is penetrating the principle of Suchness.' / At that time, the Venerable One manifested miraculous transformations, returned to his seat, and quietly passed into extinction. The assembly erected a jeweled stupa and buried his whole body. This was during the era of King Jing of Zhou (Zhengzong ji).
