辛卯十九年。世尊入滅五百歲。天竺國無著菩薩其弟天親菩薩。初尚小乘。造論五百部。後契悟大乘。復造大乘論五百部。號千部論師。

In the nineteenth year, [a cyclical year] xinmao: five hundred years after the World-Honoured One entered cessation. In the land of India, Bodhisattva Asaṅga and his younger brother, Bodhisattva Vasubandhu. At first [Vasubandhu] esteemed the Lesser Vehicle and composed five hundred treatises. Later he realized the Great Vehicle and again composed five hundred treatises on the Great Vehicle; he was hailed as the master of a thousand treatises.
