Zhu Shixing: Formerly, in the second year of the Ganlu era under Duke Gaoguixiang of Wei, when he was lecturing on the Daoxing jing, there were doubtful and difficult points, so he went directly to the Western Regions to seek the Sanskrit manuscript to verify them. Up to this dingwei year, he obtained the Sanskrit manuscript in the kingdom of Khotan. As he was about to set out on his return journey, the Hīnayāna congregation of Khotan addressed their king, saying, "The Han people wish to confuse the orthodox canon with Brahmanical books. If the king does not forbid it, he will cause the Han land to become blind and deaf." Shixing, indignant, said, "These are Buddhist sūtras!" and requested that the scriptures be burned as a test of proof. The king piled up firewood and lit the fire; when the fire burned out, the scripture remained intact, radiating dazzling brilliance. The king and the congregation were astonished and convinced. The king then dispatched an escort to send it to Luoyang. Shixing returned to Xuchang. Two years later, the Venerable Mokṣala of the kingdom of Khotan translated it as the Fangguang banruo jing (Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā-prajñāpāramitā Sūtra) in thirty fascicles; this is it (his main biography). The jiyou year was the tenth year of Taikang.
