閔大名路滑州內黃縣人。本姓冉。趙主勒獲之。命弟虎養以為子。閔至是復姓冉。庚戌年三月後趙石祇聞冉閔篡位於鄴。乃即帝位於襄國。改元永寧。十月冉閔伐襄國。明年辛亥石祇將劉顯殺祇自立稱帝。壬子年冉閔攻殺劉顯。閔在位三年。前燕慕容雋進兵攻閔獲之國滅。冉魏不在十六國占據之列（冉閔載記）。

Min was a native of Neihuang County in Hua Prefecture of Daming Circuit. His original surname was Ran. The Zhao ruler Le had captured him and commanded his brother Hu to adopt and raise him as a son; Min now reverted to the surname Ran. In the third month of the gengxu year, Shi Zhi of Later Zhao, hearing that Ran Min had usurped the throne at Ye, ascended the imperial throne at Xiangguo and changed the reign era to Yongning. In the tenth month, Ran Min attacked Xiangguo. In the following year, xinhai, Shi Zhi's general Liu Xian murdered Zhi, set himself up, and declared himself emperor. In the renzi year, Ran Min attacked and killed Liu Xian. Min reigned for three years. Murong Jun of Former Yan advanced troops, attacked Min, captured him, and extinguished the state. Ran-Wei is not included among the Sixteen States that held territory (Records of Ran Min).
