Esoteric Teaching: Transmitted between the Western Heavens and this land, it spans seven generations in all. At first, Vajrasattva personally received the rituals and models of the five families and susiddhi of Yoga in the presence of Vairocana. Vajrasattva transmitted it to the Great Being Nāgārjuna. Nāgārjuna transmitted it to Ācārya Nāgabodhi; each remained in the world for several hundred years. Nāgabodhi transmitted it to Vajrabodhi (Jingangzhi). Vajrabodhi was the first to come to the Eastern Land, transmitting it to Tripiṭaka Master Amoghavajra (Bukong). During the Kaiyuan era under Emperor Xuanzong, Amoghavajra again traveled to India, entering the Lion Country (Sri Lanka). From the Ācārya Samantabhadra, he received the Vajra consecration of the eighteen assemblies and the methods for constructing the maṇḍala of the Great Compassion Garbhadhātu. In the fifth year of the Tianbao era, he returned to the capital, and conferred the teachings he had obtained upon Dharma Master Huilang. From Huilang downward, in the southern regions this lineage gradually diminished, declining toward the latter age, until only what are called Yoga Buddhist rituals survived.
