宦官得專軍政者。始自竇文場。初文場惡左神策大將軍柏良器。貞元八年十二月。左遷良器為右領軍。因而宦官得志。至是貞元十一年五月。河東節度使李自良薨。監軍王定遠奏。以行軍司馬李說為留後。說深德定遠請鑄監軍印。監軍有印自定遠始。

Eunuchs obtaining exclusive control over military and state administration began with Dou Wenchang. Formerly, Wenchang detested Bai Liangqi, Grand General of the Left Shence Army. In the twelfth month of the eighth year of Zhenyuan, Liangqi was demoted to the Right Lingjun Army, and eunuchs thereby had their way. Reaching the fifth month of the eleventh year of Zhenyuan, Li Ziliang, Jiedushi of Hedong, passed away. Wang Dingyuan, the military inspector, memorialized to appoint Li Shuo, marshal of the field army, as acting governor. Shuo was deeply grateful to Dingyuan and requested to cast a seal for the military inspector. That the military inspector possessed a seal began with Dingyuan.
