己巳三年。湖南觀察使裴休謁潭州華林覺禪師。問有侍者否。師曰。有一兩箇。使云。在甚麼處。覺乃喚大空小空。二虎自菴後而至。使驚懼焉。覺潭州人。嗣馬祖一禪師（傳燈錄）。

In the jisi year, the third year (849), the Surveillance Commissioner of Hunan, Pei Xiu, went to pay respects to Chan Master Hualin Jue of Tanzhou. He asked: "Do you have any attendants?" The master said: "One or two." The commissioner asked: "Where are they?" Jue then called out: "Big Emptiness! Little Emptiness!" and two tigers came from behind the hermitage. The commissioner was terrified. Jue was a native of Tanzhou and a dharma heir of Chan Master Mazu Daoyi (Transmission of the Lamp).
