岐王鳳翔李茂貞深州博野人。本姓宋。名文通。為博野軍戍卒。黃巢犯京師。茂貞以功補扈蹕都頭。僖宗賜姓李名茂貞。拜鳳翔隴右節度使。昭宗時封為岐王。稱天祐四年。

Li Maozhen, King of Qi in Fengxiang, was a native of Boye in Shenzhou. His original surname was Song and his given name was Wentong. He was a garrison soldier of the Boye Army. When Huang Chao attacked the capital, Maozhen was promoted to Commander of Imperial Escorts on account of his merit. Emperor Xizong bestowed upon him the surname Li and the given name Maozhen, appointing him Military Commissioner of Fengxiang and Longyou. Under Emperor Zhaozong, he was enfeoffed as King of Qi. He used the fourth year of Tianyou.
