春正月。南唐群臣累表請唐主徐知誥復姓李。立唐宗廟。唐主許之。更名昪（皮變反）。群臣又請上尊號。不受。唐主不以外戚輔政。宦者不得預事。他國所不及也。

In spring, the first month, the various ministers of Southern Tang submitted repeated memorials requesting that the Tang ruler Xu Zhigao revert to the surname Li and erect the Tang ancestral temple. The Tang ruler granted this and changed his name to Bian (pronounced *bian*). The ministers also requested to present him an honorific title, but he refused. The Tang ruler did not allow maternal relatives to assist in government, nor could eunuchs take part in state affairs, which was unmatched by other states.
