In the sixth month, King Zhongxian of Wuyue, [Qian] Hongzuo, passed away. By his testamentary decree, his chancellor Hongzong was appointed military commissioner of Zhenhai and Zhendong. That year, he was deposed by Hu Jinsi, military commissioner of the Palace Guard, who then enthroned his younger brother Hongchu, who was King Zhongyi. The king turned his mind to the teachings of the Śākya. At the beginning of his accession, throughout the prefectures of the Two Zhe, wherever there were famous mountains and sacred sites, he bestowed gold and silks to establish monasteries. Mount Zhiti in Fuzhou is the bodhimaṇḍa of the Tianguan (Buddhāvataṃsaka) Bodhisattva; the king donated the seven treasures, cast one thousand statues of Tianguan, and built monastery halls whose magnificence ranked foremost among the Seven Min.
