Masters who propagated the Way: the Venerable Upāli of Central India; the Venerable Dharmakāla of South India; the Venerable Buddhayaśas of Central India; Vinaya Master Cong; Vinaya Master Guangtong; Vinaya Master Yunhui Yuan; Vinaya Master Yue Hongyun; Vinaya Master Hongzun of the Sui, whom Emperor Wen took as his master; Vinaya Master Zhishou; Vinaya Master Xuan of Nanshan; Vinaya Master Wengang, a native of Guangzhou in the Tang; Vinaya Master Dao'an, whom Zhongzong revered, having his portrait painted in Linguang Palace, with the imperial panegyric seen under the third year of Jinglong; Vinaya Master Tailiang; Vinaya Master Tanyi of the Zhang clan of Nanyang; Vinaya Master Daocheng of the Tang, whom Dezong bestowed the title Vinaya Master Dayuan; Vinaya Master Huilin of the Xu clan of Hongzhou.
